Helping Dr. Dyslin and Dr. Lyons start their bariatric program has been one of the highlights of my bariatric nursing career. From their skills in the operating room to their empathy in counseling of patients postoperatively, these two doctors never cease to amaze me. I don’t think either of them expected to be so moved by the transformations their patients went through, and the changes in their lives that occurred. It’s been a privilege to be associated with their practice.

The Bariatric program at North Texas Weight Loss is health care at its finest. From the people involved in the program—nurses, doctors, dietitians, etc., to the facility and hospital staff, the feeling is that you are being taken care of by people who care about you and your success.
From the very first seminar explaining the procedure, Dr. David Dyslin takes the time to make sure you are ready and understand everything in each step that will happen. I would never have thought the level of care I received would be possible in today’s health care system.
And the care did not stop at surgery. His nurse has led us through the “after surgery” experience with the love and encouragement you would only expect from a family member. The support group she leads, the reminders she provides, along with the energy that comes from her has been the driving force behind our success.
Overall, the experience has been exceptional and I would recommend Arlington Memorial to anyone who has made the decision for bariatric surgery.

Dr. Augustus Lyons is awesome!! My fist experience with Dr. Lyons was for a minor surgery on my shoulder and I was extremely comfortable with him. Once we finished talking about my shoulder, I asked him about the RNY as there was a lady in the lobby that was talking about him doing her surgery and how pleased she was with him. His bedside manners are outstanding and he’s gave me the comfortable feeling.
Only one thing I didn’t like is that he pretty much told me I had to quit smoking or we couldn’t do the surgery…. GUESS WHAT… I’m going on 9 months SMOKE FREE!! Thanks You Dr. Lyons!!!!!!! ( yes I’m still mad… well I was until I got in the gym and realized how much it has helped me LOL) From every experience with him I’m VERY impressed! I would and have recommended him & Dr. Dyslin to others.

I am very happy with my surgery. I weighed 313 pounds on my first office visit with Dr. Dyslin (320 at my last regular doctor visit) and I had my surgery in July and I now weigh 245 in September. I have had no complications even though I had to have a surprise open procedure instead of the laparoscopic one. My regular doctor was very happy with the weight loss and believed if I made my goal of 180 pounds I could get off my high blood pressure medicine for good. The weight loss has already helped my sleep apnea. All in all I would recommend the procedure to anyone thinking of it.

I truely believe that finding Dr. Lyons and his practice are one of the many blessings in my life. I began my WLS in Sept., 07 with another doctor, who I was told was in my insurance network. After completing my 6 month required diet, I was denied. I felt like I had been kicked in the stomach and did not know what I was going to do. I just happened to be in Dr. Lyons office to see one of his partners for a different issue. While waiting in the office, I noticed a brochure featuring WLS. I had found my answer. I was able to make an appointment within a couple of weeks and get back on track to obtaining my goal!
When I met Dr. Lyons for the first time, I was at complete ease and felt I had found the right doctor to perform my surgery. Dr. Lyons is a very compasionate, comforting doctor, with great bedside manner and just a genuine care for his patients. I had my surgery on June 21, 2008 and have not looked back. I can say there have been bumps in the road and i have just had to persurvere. I have lost almost 100 pounds and feel that my goal of losing 140 pounds is within reach. I have a great support system in place with my wonderful husband and a very caring mom, grandmother and sister. I also have great support from co-workers.
If I ever run across one on the bumps in the road, it is just a phone call away to Fran, Dr. Lyons awesome nurse. She always follows up and gets back to you with a smile on her face or in her voice!!! I can not say enough great things about Dr. Lyons and his staff. If I had to do it again, I would choose the same team and not change a thing!

Doctors Dyslin and Lyons, and their support staff, not only provided excellent care during my surgery and recovery, they genuinely showed concern and compassion. Even before I had the surgery, all my questions and concerns were fully answered. Armed with all the information I needed helped me make a very important decision, to have gastric bypass surgery. I was also impressed that my physical and mental health was fully assessed before even being scheduling the surgery. The support and follow-up after my surgery has been just as complete and supportive. I've been obese all my life, even as a child. When I first met Tammy to learn about their program, I was 4’11” and weighed 300 lbs. I knew I needed to do something, my health and quality of life was being severely impacted by my obesity. Just doing normal day-to-day tasks were difficult. From the point when I went to see Tammy for more information, over a year ago up until today, this group of healthcare professionals has shown nothing but concern and compassion. I never felt like just another patient among the many visiting their office, I was treated like an individual. I now have lost 150 lbs since I first embarked on this life-changing journey a little over two years ago and I reached my goal weight I set before my surgery. I’ve dropped dress sizes from 26/28 to 10/12. I have met all my health goals. I no longer take medication for high blood pressure or cholesterol (my cholesterol has dropped from 357 to 174, my blood pressure is normal), my sleep apnea is resolved, my back, hips, and knees no longer hurt every day, and I am more active AND healthy. An extra perk, I feel much better about myself and actually enjoy buying clothes – shopping for clothes used to be a real nightmare. I can now do things my weight stopped me from doing such as flying, community volunteering, or going to a theatre with friends. The benefits have not only been health related, the quality of my life is greatly improved too. Making the decision to have any type of weight loss surgery is not to be taken lightly but this group of doctors and their team are the best group to help you through the journey if you decide it is the best choice for you. ---Lee Shqeir
